Shou sugi ban or Yakisugi is a traditional Japanese wood burning/preserving technique. This, along with an oil treatment with linseed oil, brings a very high level of preservation to the wood and makes it weather, and insect resistant. Our signs feature three levels of color, this one is the darkest and is displayed with brushed nickel numbers. Note the way the charring makes the grain stand out.
Each piece is unique depending on the features within the wood. First we hand select the piece that will best work with the house number so we can showcase the grain, knots and textures in the wood. Then we char (burn), clean, wash, and prepare the sign. Finally, we finish each piece with traditional oil finish and top coat with spar varnish for a highly weather resistant product. This is traditional cedar but we also have a listing for pine. If you are looking for more knots and color variations that that brings, that would be your best option.

Due to variations and the nature of wood, each sign is unique and will vary from the images slightly.

These signs can be either vertical or horizontal

Dimensions:

24" x 7.5" x .75" for up to 4 numbers
32" x 7.5" x .75" for 5 numbers

Numbers are 5" high and we recommend brushed nickel (as shown) to really stand out against the wood.
